Rosacea

Rosacea is a disease in which facial redness is at the forefront. The name of the disease, rosa (rose), also comes from here, this condition is also known as rose disease.

Redness and swelling are seen on the cheeks, forehead, chin and nose, more in the middle of the face. Sometimes symptoms can also involve the ears, back, and chest. As the disease progresses, capillary enlargement and small pimple-like red bumps appear. These complaints may continue for many years by decreasing or increasing from time to time. As the disease progresses, facial redness becomes evident.

In some patients, the eyes are also affected by the disease and eye redness, burning, stinging, discharge called conjunctivitis may occur; stye may develop. These conditions definitely require treatment.

Rosacea is a disease most commonly seen in middle-aged and fair-skinned women. However, this disease can also develop in men at a much earlier or later age.

The first symptoms may be facial redness and sensitivity triggered by intense stress, sun, heat and cosmetic use. Pimples of various sizes and some inflamed can be added to the symptoms. The use of alcohol, tea, coffee can also increase this situation. Due to the reddening and thickening of the nasal skin in later periods, this area appears larger.

Treatment
The cause of the rosary is a controversial issue. There are publications that the parasite called demodex, which lives in the sebaceous glands or hair follicles, plays a role in the formation of the disease. As a physician who has been paying special attention to rosacea for many years, following and recording the data related to this disease, I think that the parasite in question is the causative agent of the disease. In this respect, family history, parasite research by taking a sample from the reddened structure is of great importance in terms of distinguishing it from other skin diseases and its treatment. I also observe that my patients with parasites respond very well to the treatment.

Laser therapy is required when the patient has enlarged capillaries. When there is an eye complaint, the disease should be treated jointly with an ophthalmologist.
